AI Prompts for Etsy Sellers: Titles and Descriptions That Make Sense to Shoppers

TargetAI.us ·

Writing Etsy listings is the part of running a shop that many makers put off. You've spent hours on the product, and then you have to sum it up in a title that shoppers will find and a description that answers their questions. Multiply that by 30, 50 or 200 listings and it's a real job.

AI tools can help, as long as you guide them well. This article shares practical AI prompts for Etsy sellers, focused on the two things that matter most on a listing: the title and the description.

First, what makes a good Etsy listing?

Before prompting, it helps to know what you're aiming for:

  • A clear title that leads with what the item is, in the words a shopper would type, followed by the most useful details (material, size, style, occasion).
  • A description that answers questions before buyers have to ask: what it's made of, size, how it's made, how to care for it, processing and shipping times, and personalization options.
  • Honesty. Don't promise what you can't deliver, and don't invent reviews or "bestseller" claims.

AI is good at structure and wording. It doesn't know your product. Your job is to give it the facts.

The basic prompt formula

Every strong prompt has four parts:

  1. Role: "Act as an experienced Etsy seller and listing copywriter."
  2. Task: what you want written.
  3. Facts: the real details of your item, in a list.
  4. Rules: tone, length, and what not to do.

Here's how that looks in practice.

Prompts for Etsy listing titles

Title options from your product facts

Act as an experienced Etsy seller and listing copywriter. Write 5 Etsy title options for this product: [PRODUCT FACTS]. Lead with what the item is, in plain words a shopper would search for. Then add the most useful details: material, size, style and occasion. Keep each title readable for a human, not a list of keywords. Do not invent features.

A/B title ideas for a listing that isn't getting views

Act as an Etsy listing consultant. Here is my current title: [TITLE]. Here are the product facts: [FACTS]. Suggest 3 alternative titles that each test a different angle: one focused on the gift occasion, one focused on the material or style, and one focused on the recipient. Explain in one line what each version is testing.

Holiday title refresh

Act as an experienced Etsy seller. Rewrite this title for the [HOLIDAY] season without changing what the item is: [TITLE]. Give 3 options. Keep the most important search words near the start.

Tip: check your Etsy Stats to see which search terms already bring visitors, and give those terms to the AI as part of your facts.

Prompts for Etsy listing descriptions

A full, scannable description

Act as an experienced Etsy seller and listing copywriter. Write a listing description for [PRODUCT] using only these facts: [FACTS]. Structure it with short sections: a 2-sentence opening, Details, Size, Materials, Care, Personalization, and Processing & Shipping. Use short paragraphs and bullet points. Warm, friendly tone. Do not invent reviews, awards or claims.

Benefit bullets

Act as an Etsy listing copywriter. Turn these features into 6 benefit-focused bullets for shoppers: [FEATURES]. Each bullet should start with what the buyer gets, then the detail. Keep each one under 15 words.

Materials and care section

Act as an experienced handmade seller. Write a clear Materials & Care section for [PRODUCT] made from [MATERIALS]. Include how to clean it, what to avoid and how to store it. Keep it short and practical.

Shipping and processing explainer

Act as an Etsy shop owner. Write a short, friendly section explaining processing time ([DAYS]) and shipping options ([OPTIONS]) for a made-to-order item. Set honest expectations and avoid promising delivery dates I can't control.

Rewrite an existing description

Act as an Etsy listing editor. Rewrite this description so it is easier to scan and answers common buyer questions: [CURRENT DESCRIPTION]. Keep every fact. Don't add new claims. List any questions a buyer might still have that I should answer.

That last instruction is valuable. It often reveals missing information, such as dimensions, color variations or gift-wrap options, that would otherwise turn into customer messages.

Prompts for tags and attributes

Titles and descriptions work alongside tags. A quick helper:

Act as an Etsy SEO helper. Brainstorm tag themes for [PRODUCT] grouped by: what it is, who it's for, occasion, style and material. Keep each tag phrase short. Remind me to check Etsy's current tag limits and rules.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Keyword stuffing. Repeating the same phrase five times makes a title harder to read and doesn't help shoppers.
  • Copying AI output without editing. Read it out loud. If it doesn't sound like you, change it.
  • Letting the AI guess. If you don't give it the size, it may make one up. Always use "using only these facts."
  • Forgetting the photos. The best description can't fix unclear photos. Make sure the two tell the same story.

A simple weekly workflow

  1. Pick five listings with the fewest views.
  2. Run the title prompt and the description rewrite prompt for each.
  3. Edit, update and note the date.
  4. After two to three weeks, compare views and favorites in Etsy Stats.

Small, steady updates are easier to manage than rewriting the whole shop at once.
